in other news

Hannah's first loose tooth was so exciting it needed it own post. Here is other news from our day.  Hannah and Dad did a little painting today while Buddy was napping.

She painted these flowers for me.
This is her painting of the ocean.
 Trees.
 Flowers in a vase.

I am so proud of her wonderful handwriting. She is doing great, when she takes her time.
She not only loves to paint she loves to draw. She is a good little artist. She gets that all from her Dad. I like to think she gets neat handwriting from me.
This is a piece of Hunter good work. He could tell me all the colors when I asked him. This is the most he has even colored on a paper. Dad thinks he had a little help, I am not sure he told me he colored it all.
These pictures are just because he is so cute. He was trying to hind from me but only covered one eye. Silly boy! Dad had spiked his hair and it looked to cute to not take a picture of.

Thanks to Donna I can make this yummy chicken pot pie. I thought it looked pretty enough for a picture.

BREAKING NEWS

Hannah has a loose tooth. It is the bottom left looking at the picture. When she was brushing her teeth she said her tooth hurt. I asked her to show me which one and when I touched it, it moved. She was so excited and I wanted to cry. She said, "I can't wait to get to school in the morning and tell Mrs. Smith." I can't believe she is old enough to start having loose teeth. I can't hardly talk about the fact that she will be 6 in a little over a month.

The Greatest Show on Earth

We all enjoyed our night at the circus. Here are just a few of the pictures of all the fun!

lazy Saturday morning

Hunter can match letters. I am very proud of him. He is not as much into letters and other academic things as Hannah was at this age, but he is learning letters, colors, shapes and numbers.
We decided to get our 100 collection together this morning so we would not have to worry about it later. She decided she wanted a button collection.
We finally brought the fire house tent up for the kids to pay in. They thought it was the best thing ever. I am sure it will be up for a while. Thanks Aunt Debbie for passing this fun tent along.

Zoo Run, Run

Hannah was so excited to run her first "big" race today. She has only done one other race last year and it was the 1 mile fun run. She loved it and won third for her age. I thought the Zoo Run would be a good run since lots of kids do it. I made sure I explained to her that there would be a lot of people and that we would not win this race. She took the news pretty well and said that she would still try. I think she looks so grown up with her hair in a ponytail.

I am not sure what I am looking at but this is the best picture Derrick took of us. I am glad she wanted to run and we had a good time running. She ran the first mile without stopping. A little past the mile mark she asked to walk. From that point we did a combination of walking, running and skipping. I think she talked the whole time. I loved spending that time with her. We finished in 43 minutes. We did have to stop once to take her picture with the flamingos, it is phone. She thought it was fun that so many teachers from school where doing the race to. I hope this is our first of many 5k's to run together.

hibernation day, marathon and silly boys

Today was hibernation day in kindergarten. She got to wear pj's, take her bear, and spend the day doing fun activities with her friends all day.
Hannah is doing the Kids Rock marathon. She will run 26.2 miles, but just not all at once. She is running in PE and with me some. We just keep track of the time she runs and then Mrs. Osburn helps her color in the time/distance. I think the tracking chart is so cute. She will get to run the last 1/2 mile of her 26.2 miles downtown the day before the marathon. I really hope she will always like to run.

I love the silly boys. They make me laugh and bring me so much happiness and joy. They are really cute too!

his poor head

Can you see the huge knot on his forehead?
The pictures do not do the size of the knot justice. When I came home from the Y it was the first thing I noticed. I asked him what happened and he quickly told me the whole story. He said, "I was playing monster and put the blanket on my head and run into the door and it really hurt." Derrick said he probably would have busted it open if he had not had the blanket over this head. He always hit is poor little head. It seems to be hard.

MLK Day

Since we had today out of school we went to Target to spend some Christmas money. Hannah bought an art teacher Barbie and a Hello Kitty alarm clock. Hunter bought a Toy Story blanket and tractor (it makes so much noise). They both thought long and hard about what to buy and have some money left to spend later. Thanks Nana and Papa. We spent the rest of the day at home playing with their new toys. It was a nice relaxing day.

reading

Hannah was practicing reading all of her poems to Hunter. He loves to listen to her read and she loves to read to him. That works out well for me.

Snow Day

I was excited to get the call at 5:45 this morning that there was no school today. I was a little sad that there was not enough snow to play in. Since that was the case Derrick took Hunter to school on his way to work. Hannah played on her iPad and watched a movie. I did some work and then we went to school for a little while. I got things ready for next week and Hannah played. I took her to Sonic for lunch and we come home for a little while before going to get Hunter. I took Hunter to Sonic to get a drink when I picked him up. He asks everyday to go to Sonic and get a drink. We came home and played for a while. I cooked dinner and we all ate together. Well, really Derrick and I ate and the kids picked at their food. This is their new thing. Hannah usually eventually eats all her food and for Hunter it depends on the day. We had planned to watch a movie and have popcorn, but that did not happen. I am very frustrated that Hannah is in a very whinny phase and is not being a good listener. She is a good girl and knows how to listen and obey but has chosen not to lately. It really makes my heart sad. Since there is no movie today I guess I will grade papers and go to bed. Maybe well all just need some rest. Hopefully before winter is over we will have a snow day with snow to play in.

conversations in the car

I love the things the kids say in the car. These are just a few of the conversations from our week.

Hannah: Mom when I grow up I am going to have you and Dad some grandkids.
Me: Oh, you are?
Hannah: Yes I am going to have a boy named John and  girl named Grace.
Me: Well those are nice names. Why did you choose those names?
Hannah: I just like them. Can you put it on song 3. It is my favorite.

While driving to church it was quiet in the car, which never happens. All of the sudden Hunter says, "Mom I really love you!" I told him I really love him to as my heart melted and I smiled really big. He is so sweet.

Another day we were driving home from the Y.
Hunter: Mom did you have good exercises?
Me: Yes Hunter I did, thanks for asking.
Hunter: I had fun playing at the Y. I really like it there.
Me: I am glad you had fun and like it.
Hunter: Tomorrow when it is spring we can go outside to play on the playground.
Me: Well, Buddy it will not be spring tomorrow but when it is you can play on the playground.

This morning on the way to school we were talking about the weather.

Hannah: There is a chance it might snow today.
Me: I really hope it does. I like snow days.
Hunter: Can I see it snow?
Hannah: It is not snowing now Buddy.
Me: Maybe it will snow this afternoon and we will not have to go to school on Friday.
Hunter: I like to go to school.
Me: I know you do and school is really fun.
Hannah: Can we pray and ask Jesus to make it snow.
Me: ABSOLUTELY! You can ask Jesus for anything but He does not always give us the answer we want.
Hannah: I will ask Him tonight.
Hunter: Jesus can you make it snow?
Me: You can talk to Jesus anytime, not just at night.
Hannah: I will ask Him in a little while.

It did snow this afternoon and it REALLY cold. I am not sure if it is enough to get us out of school, but it was really pretty to watch. I hope you are able to have such fun conversations in your car.

we are still here

I have not even really thought about blogging in a week. Hunter has said some funny things I that I should have written down. Hopefully they will come back to me. We are trying to get back in the swing of real life. Today was a long day and I am sure it will be a long week. We will make it. It is good for all of us to be back at school and work. As crazy as it sounds it helps my week go much smoother. I hope you all have a great week. Hopefully this weekend I will catch up on things from last week and this week. Have a great week!

writing

Hannah is pretty good at finding things to do to entertain herself in my room after school. I try not to stay too long after school if she is with me. I just do not think that is fair to her. Today I was finishing getting things ready for next week and she wrote this story. I am so proud of her. Mrs. Smith is wonderful at teaching writing, as well as everything else. In case you can't read kindergarten handwriting and spelling it say: I made a snowman. The next day the sun had come out. I looked out the window and my snowman melted. The picture is the snowman in the snow and the other side is the snowman melted. I love it!

back to the real world

I am very sad that Christmas/Winter Break is over. I had a great time being home as a family and just playing. I did not do any school work, except count and mail Box Tops. That is a first for me. I can say I rested and had a great break. I am not really excited to go back to work tomorrow but at least we get to go out to lunch. I can make it three days. Hunter is excited to go back to school tomorrow. He has been asking to go to school for at least the last three days. I guess we are not as much fun as Ms. Marie and his friends. Hannah has gone back and forth about being excited to go back to school. She gets to spend the day with Uncle Kyle tomorrow and she is pretty excited about that. I am going to write my thank you notes to my kids tonight and then read a little before going to bed, by 10pm. I hope you all had a great day today.

Home Sweet Home

Hunter was happy to be home to play trains. We had a great visit in SC. It is always nice to be home and back to our normal routines.
